1917-Berlin.
the Dada Movement had just moved into Germany. It was a revolutionary movement in literature, sculpture, and the fine arts which aimed at negating all that had come before it. Dadaists were young, brilliant boys ,19-20,and revolutionized 20th century culture, leading to surrealism with Dali and Picasso.
because they were so shocking, many dadaists were arrested from their popular coffee shop in berlin.everybody noticed a bald,middle-aged,harmless man in the same cafe, everyday, playing chess intently.he was a misfit in that young vibrant and charismatic place, and the police never even looked at him.
the man-vladimir ilyich lenin, hiding out in germany, who later that year returned to russia and led the revolution of 1917 that changed the world. ---source: memoirs of a dada drummer,by huelsenbeck.

here's an young picture of lenin, before the baldness and the trademark goatee.
